SMA is a great option for homeowners as they use a proprietary system called shade fix technology that optimizes solar panel performance without the need for module-based optimizers or microinverters. SMA gives our customers the best return on investment for the best price with higher annual power output.
SolarEdge
SolarEdge is another great string inverter option. We use them for larger systems as they have higher AC nameplates than SMA inverters in the residential sector. SolarEdge has similar qualities to SMA but is at a slightly higher price point.
Enphase
Enphase is a great option but has a specific AC output that sometimes gets outperformed by string inverter AC outputs. Most incentives are based on this AC output and can make a big difference in your annual production. We love Enphases user face and ease of install but are at a higher price point than both SMA and SolarEdge.
Pricing
An SMA solar configuration will be much less expensive than other configurations because we are not installing power optimizers on each panel. Instead, we are installing a rapid shut down device that is NEC compliant and the panels are optimized from SMA’s Shade fix technology.
SolarEdge inverters are a great option for homeowners who have above 13,000 kWh’s consumed annually and are looking to get completely offset by solar. SolarEdge offers great pricing and are the best option for a residential homeowner that consumes a lot more than the national average.
Enphase is a great option for someone who has multiple array locations on their roof. This will limit the amount of DC wire on your roof and save you money in wire upsizing and ensures a cleaner install. Enphase is more expensive than the other inverters but not by much because of the cost savings in other labor-intensive areas we avoid.
The inverters we recommend are job-specific and are based on many variables. Solar inverters will perform differently in different environments and configurations.
